Question S4W-01388 - Hugh Henry ( Renfrewshire South ) (Scottish Labour ) (Date Lodged 28/06/2011 ) :
To ask the Scottish Executive what the average cost is of providing a patient with an insulin pump and accessories.
Answered by Michael Matheson ( 15/09/2011 ):
Healthcare Improvement Scotland has previously calculated the cost of a pump at around £2,100 and the associated insulin and consumables at around £1,800 a year.
The main resource element associated with insulin pump therapy is the staff needed to deliver the education programme that people with type 1 diabetes must complete before they begin insulin pump therapy.
